Butler Youth Jazz Combo and Orchestra Concert

The kids participated in the Butler University Youth Jazz Program again this spring.  Margaret participated in a jazz combo which she enjoyed.  Andrew was in the Jazz Orchestra playing trombone.  Both kids played solos this year.  Margaret’s is pretty obvious and Andrew’s will be too.  Enjoy!

2009 North Central Christmas Concert

Both Margaret and Andrew performed at Wednesday’s Christmas Concert. Margaret plays bass for the Jazz Kitchen and Andrew is on Trombone for the Jazz Ensemble. Andrew is on the very end wearing moose slippers. Yes, the kids seemed to really get into the spirit.

Butler Jazz Combos

The kids participated in a fall program being run by Butler University that teaches kids how to perform in small jazz combos. It is an excellent program in teaching kids improvisational jazz. Matt Pivec is the Professor of Jazz Studies at Butler. I tip my hat off to him and the work he is doing.

Music is a great outlet for kids and jazz is a great genre for them to learn. Here are a couple of videos of the kids performance from this weekend.

Butler Youth Jazz Orchestra – Mother’s Day 2009

Andrew and Meggie played in the Butler Youth Jazz Orchestra.  Andrew is on trombone and Meggie is on the bass right behind him.  I am proud that both were able to participate.
